The Trinidad and Tobago Commonwealth Games Association (TTCGA) will lead as the first Baton bearer for the start of the King’s Baton Relay amongst the 74 Commonwealth nations.

King’s Baton Relay Celebrations for the TTCGA will spend 5 days filled with activities in Trinidad and Tobago beginning on Tuesday 11th March in Trinidad and then over to its beautiful sister island of Tobago from 14th – 15th March 2025 before heading off to its next Caribbean destination of St Kitts and Nevis.

The King’s Baton Relay will begin at Buckingham Palace on Commonwealth Day 10th March 2025 where his Majesty the King will present His Message to the Commonwealth embedded within the Baton and carried as part of a Relay. This will mark the start to the countdown towards Glasgow 2026.

TTCGA President, Diane Henderson, “Trinidad and Tobago is thrilled to be the first host of the King’s Baton Relay, showcasing its creativity and culture through its own Baton design. As well, being able to contribute to the Clean Oceans plastic campaign, and the engagement of our legacies from CYG Trinbago 2023.”

The Baton Relay is a tradition that celebrates, connects and excites communities from every corner of the Commonwealth during the buildup to the Commonwealth Games, embracing unique cultures and sharing stories.

King’s Baton Relay, Commonwealth Sport, for the first time, partnered with the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) to deliver the Commonwealth Clean Oceans Plastics Campaign – bringing much-needed attention to both ongoing ocean conservation efforts and interesting new solutions to plastic waste. The campaign aim is for athletes and communities to come together to prevent one million pieces of plastic from entering Commonwealth waters and spark lasting change in how we view plastic pollution.

TTCGA in its effort to actively amplify the Baton Relay and its promotion of clean environmental sustainability and driving collective action towards a cleaner, greener future, will partner with Caribbean Network for Integrated Rural Development (CNRID) to host a beach clean-up during the afternoon period on Wednesday 12th March 2025 at Invaders Bay.

The Commonwealth Games (CWG) is a unique, world class, multi-sport event that is held once every four years and is often referred to as the ‘Friendly Games’. The CWG brings together the members of the Commonwealth of Nations in an effort to raise the bar of sport for all humanity and provide a level playing field where athletes compete in a spirit of friendship and fair play.

This time each of the 74 Commonwealth countries will receive their own Baton, simpler than past Museum-style batons, to allow countries to decorate their batons to showcase its cultural wealth. Each Commonwealth Games Associations (CGA) have been encouraged to ensure the Baton reflects their culture, creativity and vision. It can be painted, carved, or crafted, as chosen.

The King’s Baton Relay will culminate marking at the Opening Ceremony of Glasgow 2026, one of the largest the multisport Games, on 23rd July 2026.
